| IP Multicasting | 21/10/12 | 2 |
Today, telecommunications networks are delivering data and multimedia services to users. The next step in Internet technology is its distribution to multiple individual hosts without overloading the network. IP Multicasting allows a station to send a single stream of packets into the network in order to be delivered to the subscribing users. This is the basis for many new networking applications, such as conferencing, distance learning or software and data distribution.
This course provides an understanding of how IP multicasting works and once completed it, attendees will be able to: Describe the application and basic function of Multicast IP - Identify the IP Multicast model - Understand multicast protocols such as IGMP, PIM, MOSPF and others - Understand the issues of deploying applications based on multicasting. The Internet is rapidly evolving from a pure data network to a multimedia one. Users are looking for voice and video based services, as well as the basic data ones. On one hand these are good news for service providers but, on the other hand we all know that IP, as it was developed in the beginning, is not well prepared to support these new demands. Different kinds of traffic demand different kinds of treatments from the network. Most of the new multimedia applications are time critical and basic IP is only able to handle best effort services. | IP/Ethernet Backhauling for 3G and 4G Networks | 27/03/12 | 2 |
The Backhaul in mobile networks is the portion of the network comprises the intermediate links between the Core-Network and the Radio-Access-Network (RAN).
Moving to 3G/4G mobile networks (like LTE) together with a wide range of new services that is offered, the Backhaul networks should accommodate an increased traffic volume created by cellular coverage areas and hence, the correct dimensioning is critical from the QoS and capacity point of view. Thus, from being an almost forgotten portion of the network the backhaul becomes, in the last few years, a major challenging issue that takes a lot of attention from the mobile network Operators/Carriers. The course helps to find the way among the wide range of offered technologies and solutions provided by many vendors and supported by several specifications/standardization. The Mobile Packet Backbone Network solutions are described and supported by case studies to help transport designers realize the diverse techniques. By mastering these techniques, participants will learn how to contribute to increased end-user throughput as well as increased and future-proof capacity. This training course is also intended to provide an insight into Carrier Ethernet technologies, the Metro Ethernet Forum specifications for services and how these services can be delivered over different carrier core and access networks and transport platform along with other services deployed. | Building Secure Applications | Call | 2 |
Although application security is a relative old subject, most of the focus in the 90’s was focused on securing the network infrastructure (e.g. firewalls, VPNs etc.), as well as the servers OS (e.g. patch management systems). However, in the last years focus has been shifted from the network and the infrastructure to the application layer. This is due to the fact that the infrastructure (i.e. network and OS) security has improved significantly while applications have remained vulnerable. Thus, the application layer has become the main target of attacks. In addition, it is well understood today, that secure applications means high-quality and more safe applications.
In the course we will learn the different aspects of application security including authentication, authorization, auditing, confidentiality, and data-integrity, as well as the different technologies addressing these requirements. We will study the risk analysis model and understand how to use it to analyze the risk of the threat associated with vulnerabilities in the application. In addition, we will learn how to build secure applications, starting from including the security in the application development life cycle, continuing in secure coding practices, and security testing tools.
