Course Overview: In this seminar we intend to describe the current structure of the telecom market and its disadvantages, as a catalyst to the rise of the new, converged network model. We will provide a high level view of the Fix Mobile Convergence (FMC) network and will discuss the role of dual mode handsets. Then, we will describe the main cellular evolution paths from 2G to 4G, including a strategic discussion on why to upgrade your network. We will show the architectures of a fix network as well as a cellular network and how they both evolve to VoIP in two phases (VoIP transport and IMS). Finally we will discuss the various wireless technology pipes: cellular, WiFi, Wireless Mesh and WiMax.
