Course Overview:
As indoor use of mobile phones is growing, there is increasing interest in a reliable solution to enhance indoor communications, which often suffer from high signal attenuation leading to unacceptable call quality or very low data rates. Deploying a mini personal base station in each home called Femtocell, may be the dream of anyone who is seeking for a "real" Mobile broadband connection.
Furthermore with the increasing use of Smartphones  (such as  IPhone, Blackberry etc…) an urgent reliable solution is required to help operators relieve the burden on the classical outdoor macrocell. Here again "outdoor femtocells" is the definitive solution.
Femtocell will probably be the last stone toward the famous” Mobile everything everywhere”. North America is already on the rails with thousands of Femtocell Base Stations installed. The products are on the shelf. The snow ball effect is here. This one day overview seminar will present the opportunities and the challenges of Femtocell technology. Special attention will be given to the radio planning issue. Some marketing aspects will be covered explaining the cons and pros of such solution.
